- Choosing a superheroWe make choosing your alter ego fun and easy. Just pick any character and background option from our many templates. Whether you want to be one of our awesome superheroes, or even a custom hero it’s up to you and easy to do.
- Where do I start?This is where the fun begins. Start by deciding which superhero or villain you have always wanted to be. Next begin browsing through you various character templates. We have designs and characters for everyone!

- Order processOrdering is easy; follow these steps with every personalized product in our store:
1. Choose the Character for your personalized picture.
2. Choose the size for your final picture.
3. Choose the material you want to portrait to be on (canvas, matte paper or semi glossy paper) and framing option (rolled, framed paper or gallery wrap stretched canvas).
4. Choose your preferred method of sending your photo/s to us - You can upload the photo/s directly from your account, send it by Email or send it by regular mail. - How long does it take?It’s much quicker than waiting to get bitten by a radioactive spider or bombarded with gamma radiation…
From the day we receive your photo and it is approved to be put in process it'll take approximately 10-14 business days to complete the entire order. (Please keep in mind that Holiday orders and requests for design changes are subject to extended delivery times). If you need to place a rush order, please see the section below.
Within 3-5 business days of receiving your photo/s we will e-mail you a proof for your approval or modifications. We will not complete your portrait until you give us the go ahead. Your satisfaction is our number one guarantee.
After we receive your approval your portrait will ship in approximately 1-2 business days. You will be notified by email once it ships and you will receive a tracking number.
The duration of the process also depends on how quickly you reply to the proof, and how many modifications you request (changes will take 1-2 business day to complete). - Rush ordersOnly the Flash will be able to get it to you faster…
During the checkout process you will be able to select from three available delivery methods: Please note, the delivery date for the standard shipping option is an approximate date only. Selecting "Expedited" or "Super Rush" shipping will guarantee that the order will arrive before or on the selected date as long as you upload or email your photo/s right after placing your order.
Please note that requests for any design changes or modifications usually take 1-2 business days and may delay the delivery date. In the event that your order will be delivered after the promised delivery date, we will refund you the difference between the shipping option you chose and the standard shipping option. Rest assured that we will do our best to deliver your order on time.
If you need to receive the order any sooner than the available dates during online checkout you may contact us for additional rush options: Some of our portraits can be done in as fast as 2 business days. - How much does it cost to rush my order?Please contact us and let us know the exact date, we will then let you know the rush fees involved. When placing a custom rush order you will pay a rush design fee to speed up the design process of your proof. Usually rush order fees are about 18%-25% of the total of the order before shipping. Depending on how soon you need to receive the artwork by you may or may not have to add a rush-shipping fee.

Upload digital photo/s to your The Comics Factory account: Once your order is placed you can start uploading photos to your account. You can then select to use any of the uploaded photo/s for your order (You will be able include any design and color comments as well). After you select your photo/s you will be able to keep uploading more photos for the order by visiting your My Account section and clicking on your order number. Once your photo/s are checked and put to process you will no longer be able to add new photo/s to the order, however you will still be able to add photo/s to your \"My Photos\" page and share them with family and friends online. Your file should not be smaller than 100 KB and ideally, at least 500 KB big, and it can be in .jpg, .gif or .bmp format. We will always contact you by phone or Email within one business day of receiving your uploaded photo/s (after you place an order).
By Email: You can email your photos to us at: photos@thecomicsfactory.com indicating your order number or your full name. Please send the original high-resolution file of your photo. You will receive a confirmation email from us once we receive your photo/s. To read information and tips about which photos work best please visit our photos section in this FAQ page.
By mail: No digital photos? No problem. We can scan your photos for you at no additional charge. Just send them to us the following address and we will take care of it. Try to pack the photo so it won\'t bend (we recommend you put a rigid carton in the envelope, securing the photo.) As soon as we receive the photo/s, we will let you know by email or by phone. Once your photo/s are received we will notify you if the photo\'s quality is appropriate for the design you have selected. If we need a different photo, we will email you explaining the reasons why we can\'t use that photo and we\'ll request a different one. At this point your order can still be refunded entirely, as we have not started to work on your design. Once we start working on your design, the design fee will not be refunded - Why can't I see a proof right away?Unlike most personalized portrait shops that do not require sittings, our designs are NOT done using automated software. We are proud to count on a super talented team of award-winning illustrators and digital artists who handcraft all your exclusive designs within 3-5 days. Once the artists finish working on your design, our art directors review the quality before it’s uploaded to your account. Since we don’t automate any step of our design process, it is impossible for us to offer any type of immediate preview.
- Can I see more than one proof with my face per artwork?If you need design proofs for more than one photo, design charges for each photo will apply. The price of your artwork already includes one design fee - for one proof in your selected design style. Please keep in mind that all of our designs are hand illustrated by actual artists. Creating each design proof by hand takes several hours due to our high standards and attention to details.
Our qualified customer service & design consultants will be happy to discuss any questions or concerns and give you advice at no extra charge if you can't decide which photo to use or which design style will work best before you'll place your order. Once we approve your photo and we start working on it, we will not honor refunds for the design price and any request to change your photo or the design style will incur an additional design fee, as the work will already have been started. However, we will do as many modifications to the current design as you need at no charge. - How many revisions can I ask for?We want you to be completely satisfied with your custom character portrait. We are happy to offer unlimited revisions. Our talented artists will work with you so that you can become the superhero or villain that you always dreamed of. Please keep in mind that all portraits and revisions are limited only by the photo that you send us.
- Can I reuse my design for another piece?Already have a Comics Factory design? That's great! Now you can order additional copies and different products without having to pay the full design fee again or at all. You can order an exact copy of your portrait or order it in a different size, material and framing or mounting options. Saving or taking over the world can be tough. Sometimes you need more than one alter ego. Or maybe the superhero in you wants to battle with the villain version. You can order a new copy of your artwork featuring you as any other character and only pay a small design adjustment fee. We never dispose of your design, so even if you contact us years from now we will have your design on file.
- Reviewing my design proofWithin 3-5 business days of receiving your photo/s your design proof will be available on your account for your approval or modifications. You will be able to view your proof/s by visiting the "My Proofs" section under My Account. If you don't have Internet access or an email address available we will mail you the proof. You may ask for any color changes and reasonable design changes for no additional fee as long as we keep working on the same photo in the same design style. If you ask for any changes you will receive another design proof in 1-2 business days. We will not complete the portrait until you give us your approval (by email or by phone). Your satisfaction is our number one guarantee.

You can let us know in advance which colors or color scheme to use for your design. Need exact color matching services? We offer an exact color match service for an additional fee. - Receiving my artworkOnce your design is approved your portrait will go to production. Production will take 2-3 business days. You will receive an email notification once your order has shipped as well as an email with your tracking number. All continental U.S. packages ship with FedEx, for information about our international shipping options please contact us. The artwork will arrive in a professionally packed and well-protected box. 2. Choose the layout. Many of our characters come in different poses and with different backgrounds. Once you know whom you want to be then you can pick what you want to be doing.
3. Choose the size from the list.
4. Choose the material you want to portrait to be on (canvas or semi glossy paper) and framing option (rolled, framed and if chosen canvas, also gallery wrap stretched canvas).
Once you complete this process you will be able to see the price of your portrait (shipping not included). All you have to do now is click "add to cart" and you will be able to checkout. - Do you have a printed catalog?At the moment we do not offer a printed catalog but if you do not have access to our website please contact customer service at 1-877-728-9278 and we will see how we can help.
- How can I order a gift certificate?Get The Comics Factory Gift Card and we will FedEx an official credit card look alike gift card which can be redeemed online for its face value, which runs from $50 to $1000. Creating custom Superheroes
- Can you create a custom superhero just for me?Absolutely! If you have your own idea for a custom character of your design our talented artist will be more than happy to make your vision become a reality. The only limits are your imagination and licensing restrictions.
- Can I submit my own artwork/sketches for you to work from?Yes you can. Whether you have tons of artist abilities or can only draw stick figures. We will take your submissions and work with you in order to translate your creativity into a masterpiece.
- How many revisions can I ask for?When creating a completely custom piece, we will create as many revisions as you'd like, within reason from the original sketches and concept that will be agreed upon. We understand that creating a custom piece of artwork takes some back and forth, so rest assured that our creative team will work with you until you are completely happy.
- Can I order a custom size?Of course. We can print and stretch in almost any size that you want. Just let us know what you are looking for and we will get back to you with the pricing information. All the production is done in house in our top secret location.
- Can I customize or add text to my portrait?Yes, the sky is the limit and we will only charge a design fee if a complete redrawing is necessary.
- Can I choose the colors?You can choose any color combos that you like. Want a green suit with a pink cape and purple boots? Go nuts! The choice is yours.
- Will the artist work with me to create an original hero?Our artists will not only work with you but they will make it an easy and enjoyable experience. We are a team of professional illustrators and comic book artists who love creating new and unique characters. So if you have sketches or just an idea, let us know and we will work to make you the character you always dreamed of being.
- Can you create an entire comic strip?Sure. We really don’t want to limit your imagination in any way. If you want a piece that is more than just one panel we will be happy to work with you. Please keep in mind that this is for our characters and completely original characters only. Due to licensing restrictions we can only offer the Marvel character in the variations that we show on the website.
Materials and Framing
- What materials do you offer?We offer printing on Canvas, matte fine art paper and Semi-Gloss Paper. You can also order a hi-res digital JPEG file of your portrait.
- What are my framing options?Available framing and mounting options:
Gallery wrap stretched canvas
Our most popular pieces are produced onto 100% cotton; artist-grade canvas using a highly sophisticated process and archival-quality, UV protected ink. We then wrap the canvas over premium ¾” or 1 ½” wood bars for a beautiful, contemporary look without a frame. We add extra material around the wood bars that allows your artwork's colors to show over the edges. All the hanging wiring and hardware is installed in the back of the portrait. Our staff of professionals carefully oversees each step of this process to guarantee that you'll receive your portrait in perfect condition.

Metallic finish frame
The archival fine art paper is mounted onto an acid-free foam board and then framed with a sleek aluminum frame finished with a non-glare, UV protective acrylic sheet. A perfect choice for a minimalist look that will last a lifetime.

When selecting our thick frame please be aware that it will add approximately 1.5" all around your artwork (for example: a 20"x20" size portrait will be 23"x23" when framed).

Framed canvas:
Produced onto 100% cotton, artist-grade canvas using a highly sophisticated process and archival-quality, UV protected ink. We then mount the canvas onto a sturdy gator board and add your selected frame frame around the portrait. The surface of the canvas remains uncovered to show the beautiful texture. All the hanging wiring and hardware is installed in the back of the portrait.
Framed paper:
The archival fine art paper is mounted onto an acid-free foam board and then framed with your selected frame finished with a non-glare, UV protective acrylic sheet. A perfect choice for a minimalist look. All the hanging wiring and hardware is installed in the back of the portrait.
*When ordering framed artwork you may request to leave a 1-or-2 inch white border around your portrait. The size of the frame will remain as you originally ordered and the portrait will be made just a bit smaller to allow for the extra border all around. Simply include this request in your comments when placing your order online or by phone. Don't hesitate to request any other custom options as all of our portraits are created in-house by our team of experienced framers and can be personalized from start to finish. - Can I order a digital file?Yes, a digital file of your artwork is available for purchase.
- What is a digital file?We can provide you with a hi-res JPEG, which is a high-resolution digital image of your artwork.
- Do I own the rights to my digital file?Yes you do. Once you purchase a digital file you own the copyrights to it are able to reproduce it at any size and in any medium as you wish.
- What kind of inks do you use?Our inks are all water based and to quote from HP's site:

- Does the stretching take away from the artwork size?Not at all, what you see in the proof is the complete front side of your portrait. We add extra material around the wood bars that allows your artwork's colors to show over the edges.
- Are your materials ecofriendly?Yes even Captain Planet would approve. We design, print and frame our eco-friendly professional-finish portraits and gifts fully on our premises while complying with sustainable production guidelines.
- How long will my artwork last?Rest assured that your portrait can hang in the Hall Of Heroes for centuries to come! All of our portraits are produced using high quality materials and advanced UV resistant inks to guarantee their long life. When treated as instructed, our materials have been tested to last up to 200 years so that you can enjoy them with your loved ones for many generations to come. We recommend that you hang your artwork away from direct sunlight although all of our products are treated with a UV resistant process.
- How should I take care of my artwork?Your portrait should be treated as you would any piece of fine art. Do not position where it will be near direct sunlight. Do not try to clean with water, glass cleaner, or any other liquids. Use a soft dust brush to gently remove dust only when needed.
- Can you put my portrait on a t-shirt?At the moment we do not print on T-Shirts but you can purchase the digital file and have it printed on any media that you choose.

- Which photo formats do you support?Thanks to the World Wide Web you can connect to our TCF Super Computers and upload you photo in the following formats:

You can also email us any other file type that you may have to photos@thecomicsfactory.com - Photo submission guidelines and tipsOur team of talented artist can work with almost any photo. Just make sure that we can clearly see the facial features of your character to be. We recommend that you submit close-up headshots of your subject taken in a well-lit environment. - What if I can't decide on which photo to use?You can send us your choices and our professional staff will help you pick the right shot. Click here to submit your photos for a free photo consultation.
- Do I have to submit a headshot?Headshots do work best but we can work from any photo as long as the quality is good and the size is big enough for the details of the face can be seen.
- Can I send a black and white photo?Sure just remember to let us know the correct coloring for the eyes, hair, skin and any other features that require specific coloring. As always we will send you a proof to approve before we proceed to ship out you artwork.
- Can you isolate a subject from a crowd?Yes, we can we can hone in on the subject you wish to transform. Just make sure that their face can be seen clearly and there is nothing obstructing or shadowing the view.
- Can you make 2 faces from different photos fit together?Yes, don't worry; we will make them proportional to each other even if they are two different sizes in your photos without compromising the quality.
- Do you return mailed photos?But of course! These are you special memories. Our top of the line filing system ensures that your photos are kept in the condition you send them in and returned along with your order. We are sorry but we cannot be held responsible for photos lost or damaged in the mail, our reach only goes so far, however, we keep digital copies of every photo we receive and we can help with replacements anytime.
- How do I get my photos to you?After you\'ll place an order you will view a page that displays the different options of sending your photo/s to us.

Layout and design of artwork
- Can I choose the colors for the artwork?You can choose any color combos that you like. Want a green suit with a pink cape and purple boots? Go nuts! The choice is yours.
- What if I am not sure about the colors?Don’t worry about not knowing the right color combination. Our artists can select your colors, and we’ll always make a design proof that you will be able to preview and request color changes to be made to it at no extra charge.
- Do you offer color-matching service?Yes. You can even send us a photo of the room where you plan to hang it or even samples of the wall paint or upholstery fabric, so we can match the colors (our exact color matching service is provided for a small additional fee).
- What kind of backgrounds do you offer?You can select from any of the background that you see in the portraits or just let us know what you have in mind, our art team can create custom designs based on your requests (additional design fees will apply to custom requests).
- Customization options:The Comics Factory characters and your own complete custom work can be changed and customized in any way.

- Add pets - Can you change the expression on my face?For the most part yes. Our artists are super talented so just let us know what you are thinking. Keep in mind that each portrait is custom hand illustrated, so if you ask for a new expression, we will do our best to change it, however, you will have to trust the artist judgement and only minimum changes will be available afterwards.
- Can you change my eye and/or hair colorCertainly. We can color your eyes and hair however you want.
- Can I change the Superhero's logo in the artworkYou can create any logo that you want as long as it is not a logo already owned by another company or franchise.
- I wear glasses; do you remove or keep them?The choice is yours our artist can draw them in or leave them out in case you don’t want your alter ego given away while incognito.
- Can you add or remove facial hair?Sure! If facial hair is part of your disguise or you just feel that there should be more bearded superheroes, or maybe you think your villain will look best with a sinister goatee, just let us know and our artists will do your bidding
- I have short hair, can you make it longer?Not a problem we can give even those with the shortest of crew cuts the long golden locks of Thor.
Returns and 100% Guarantee
- What is your return policy and 100% Satisfaction guarantee?In the unlikely event that you are not 100% happy with the final portrait you receive, just send it back to us within seven days from the time you receive it, in its original packaging, and we will either redo it at no additional charge (using the same design) or refund your money back. No questions asked. It is that simple.

- What are the shipping costs?We offer several shipping options and prices at checkout. If you need alternative shipping arrangements, please contact us and we will be happy to accommodate your needs whenever possible; We try to keep our shipping and handling fees as low as possible, however, to ensure that your artwork arrives as safe as possible, certain packaging and shipping measures apply. Our rates include the cost of parcel, labor, packaging materials and insurance.
These are the approximate U.S. ground shipping charges that will be added to your order at checkout. You will also be able to choose from different shipping methods and delivery times before you finalize your order. If you are ordering more than 1 item, we will try to combine the shipping charges after you have placed your order and you will be notified of the new total once we receive your photos. Additionally, if you need to expedite the design or production process of your order, please contact us.

$99.99 - How long does shipping take?From the day we receive your photo and it is approved to be put in process it'll take approximately 10-14 business days to complete the entire order. (Please keep in mind that Holiday orders and requests for design changes are subject to extended delivery times). If you need to place a rush order, please see the section below.
Within 3-5 business days of receiving your photo/s we will e-mail you a proof for your approval or modifications. We will not complete your portrait until you give us the go ahead. Your satisfaction is our number one guarantee.
After we receive your approval your portrait will ship in approximately 1-2 business days. You will be notified by email once it ships and you will receive a tracking number.
The duration of the process also depends on how quickly you reply to the proof, and how many color modifications you request (color changes will take 1-2 business day to complete).

West Coast: 4-5 days - What are the shipping methods?We use FedEx in continental US and USPS for anywhere else.
During the checkout process you will be able to select from three available delivery methods: Please note that the delivery date for the standard shipping option is an approximate date only. Selecting "Expedited" or "Super Rush" shipping will guarantee that the order will arrive before or on the selected date as long as you upload or email your photo/s right after placing your order. Please note that requests for any design changes or modifications usually take 1-2 business days and may delay the delivery date. In the event that your order will be delivered after the promised delivery date, we will refund you the difference between the shipping option you chose and the standard shipping option. Rest assured that we will do our best to deliver your order on time. If you need to receive the order any sooner than the available dates online please contact us for additional rush options. Once you place your order or after you contact us with your delivery address, we will give you an accurate shipping rate. We can also arrange to charge shipping costs directly to your courier account. Please note that the recipient is responsible for any custom, duty and/or brokerage fees associated with the shipment of your package. Custom policies vary widely from country to country; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they might be. If these charges are not collected at time of delivery, we reserve the right to reimburse the collector directly and charge the fees to your account.
Most international orders are shipped via the US Post Office Priority Mail unless specifically requested otherwise. Delivery date and transit time may vary according to the country's customs policy, therefore we cannot guarantee delivery times for international shipments unless shipped with FedEx for an additional fee. Please note that all shipments are fully insured and we will ship a new package/portrait in the event of a loss or damage during shipment.
- How is my portrait packed for shipping?It is our goal to have your portrait delivered in perfect condition. Our professionally trained production team packs each portrait carefully to ensure safe arrival: Each portrait is wrapped with a layer of shrink-wrap that protects the surface, and then it is wrapped with a thick layer of heavy-duty bubble wrap. We firmly secure your portrait in a sturdy, double layered, corrugated cardboard box to guarantee a safe arrival to its new home. Our packages travel all over the world and our team of experts will make sure that your portrait is as secured as can be.
- Do you ship to P.O. Boxes?Shipping to PO boxes is available for an additional fee. Shipping to PO boxes is only available via USPS and we will always do our best to get you the lowest shipping rates possible. We totally understand if you want to keep the location of your fortress or lair top secret.
- Do I have to sign for my package?The Comics Factory ships with FedEx, USPS or any other delivery insured courier. In most cases, you will not have to sign to receive your order: if the courier feels that the delivery address is secure they will leave the package at your door. However, if you wish to have your package delivered after a certain date or request to have the package signed for we will try to accommodate your request.
- Can I ship to a third party?Of course! Our portraits make wonderful surprise gifts and are always received with a great response. You can select the recipient's delivery address when placing your order and even ask us to include a personalized note with the package. If you already placed your order and need to change the shipping address or add a gift note please contact us with the information.
- Can I include a gift note with my package?Sure! Gift notes or secret messages add a very nice touch. Also, if you are sending the portrait as a gift, know that the recipient will not receive an invoice with the price, only a packing slip.
- Do you ship to APO addresses?Yes! We use USPS to ship to APO addresses, and only charge a small minimal fee.
Security and Privacy Policy
- Is The Comics Factory website safe and secure?Absolutely. At The Comics Factory headquarters we utilize a secure server in all the transactions that hold sensitive information. A secure server guarantees the privacy of data transmitted through the Internet, including credit card information, through a SSL protocol that encrypts the information.
- Information collectedAll the information gathered through our secure server will be used solely to process your orders. We can as well contact you for future offers and services we might provide, as long as you authorize us to do so.
- Use of informationThe Comics Factory guarantees not to share any information provided to us in the registration process to any third party company. If you wish to be deleted from our database, please send us an email to info@thecomicsfactory.com.
- Use of photography and artworkBy submitting your photo/s to The Comics Factory you grant The Comics Factory with permission to use any designs or original photo/s in company related marketing materials. If you do not wish that we use your photo or design in any marketing materials, please email to us and we will honor your request. You may not use any work or any content owned by someone else without the written permission of the owner of such content. You are solely responsible for any copyright violations that may incur as a result of using our services.
- Access to your preferences and account informationOnce your account is created you can login at any time to edit your information or change your password. If you already placed an order and need to change the delivery address or any other information please contact us and we will make sure that the new information is updated on your order as well.
